With nearly half of its population under the age of 18, Uganda possesses a remarkably youthful and energetic demographic edge. However, this demographic asset is bounded by intense economic pressures, with over 42% of young people currently disengaged from active employment, education, or specialized training.
Vulnerable youth and women frequently bear the economic brunt of these structural gaps, leaving them highly exposed to poverty, exploitation, and systemic abuse. To break this cyclical pattern of dependency, interventions must transition from short-term relief toward long-term economic self-reliance.
Operating within the Kampala Metropolitan region, Care Hub – Positive Living addresses this economic vulnerability through hands-on skills training and vocational empowerment initiatives. Realizing that emotional rehabilitation must be paired with financial stability to be permanent, Care Hub empowers vulnerable youth and women by equipping them with marketable, technical trades and income-generating skill sets.
Vocational training acts as a direct catalyst for structural change. When a young person or a woman acquires a practical trade, they gain immediate entry points into local markets, moving away from high-risk environments and towards financial autonomy.
This economic stability has a compounding positive effect: it minimizes the risk of gender-based violence, improves nutritional and health choices, and ensures that children within these families have better access to formal education and social protections.
Care Hub’s holistic approach ensures that these vocational programs do not merely teach a technical trade in isolation. They are deeply integrated with foundational life skills, child and youth support programs, and mental health check-ins.
By combining economic skilling with psychological resilience, Care Hub fosters a well-rounded transition into the workforce. In a landscape where economic independence is closely linked to personal safety and health outcomes, Care Hub’s skilling initiatives provide the necessary tools for Uganda’s vulnerable demographics to build resilient livelihoods and shape a self-sustaining future.
